Frequently Asked Questions

Booking and Payment

How do I book a tour?

All tours are booked online through the website. Just press on the bright orange ‘Book Now’ button at the top of the page, and it’ll take you through clear steps of booking a tour or if on mobile visit our home or tours pages to book using our booking widget. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Do I need a confirmation email on the day of the tour?

Yes, bring along your confirmation either printed out or on your mobile phone.

Can I pay cash on the day?

Unfortunately, no. That’s because all tours must be pre-paid online during the time you’re booking the tour.

Can I buy a gift voucher for someone else to go on a tour?

Absolutely! An Edinburgh food tour is a great gift for anyone. Whether it’s your Grampa who is partial to a dram of whisky, or your food blogging cousin –  who doesn’t love great food and beautiful sights? When you’re booking a tour, simply check “Purchase as a Gift Voucher” box. This will allow the lucky person to later redeem the tickets for free.

If the tour I wanted to go on is sold out, what can I do?

We know it sucks, but our public tour groups have a limited number of people that can join so, if a tour is sold out, we can’t wiggle anyone else in because of table reservations. If other days don’t work for you however, simply ping us an email on hello@forkaroundedinburgh.com to register your interest in a tour on a particular day, and we can always get in touch if someone else drops out last minute.

Will a tour get cancelled if the weather is bad?

Now now, this is Scotland we are talking about – and if there’s one thing we know, it’s that us Scots don’t mind a bit of rain or wind! Providing it is safe for everyone, we run the tours through all kinds of weather – just make sure to bring some sensible clothing! Of course in the event of extreme or dangerous weather conditions, we’ll get in touch with you as soon as possible to inform you of cancellation and refund you the money.

Tour Info

What's included in a tour?

Our tour costs £68 per person, and this includes:

5 delicious dishes

3 alcoholic (or alternative) drinks

and a whole load of fascinating history about the city.

Are there any age restrictions for the tours? Can I bring my children?

We don’t have an age restriction for the tours, but please do keep in mind that they’re not designed for children. The tour is roughly 3 hours long and children may find themselves a wee bit bored or distracted due to the nature of the tour, and younger children may find it hard to walk on steep streets of Edinburgh for a long period of time.

Additionally, due to the nature of the city (cobblestones, steep inclines, and inaccessibility of some locations), the tour is unfortunately not baby stroller accessible. Ultimately, we ask you to use your judgment.

Should I bring anything or wear something special to the tour?

Edinburgh’s weather is somewhat temperamental and we will be walking quite a lot, so please wear sensible clothing and especially comfortable footwear.

We don’t ask for any form of identification, but for those who have been blessed with eternal youth, we’d recommend bringing an ID of some kind just in case you’d like an alcoholic drink and the venue need your proof of age.

Do you do private tours?

We are happy to provide private tours! The size of the group is unlimited as we can split you up into separate smaller groups if need be. Please note there will be an extra fee for a private booking.

To book a private tour simple email hello@forkaroundedinburgh.com and a member of the team will be in touch to arrange the tour based on your requirements.

How big are the tour groups?

Our public tour groups are limited up to 9 people, mainly due to venue restrictions and ease of booking reservations.

If you have a larger group, it may be best to look into a private tour – simply email hello@forkaroundedinburgh.com to arrange.

My plans have changed! What’s your cancellation policy?

We understand sometimes plans fall through unexpectedly that’s why you’re able to cancel your booking by contacting us on hello@forkaroundedinburgh.com.

If you cancel 14 or more days in advance, we’ll provide you with a full refund.

If your cancellation falls within the last 14 days before the tour, we unfortunately won’t be able to offer you a refund.

Do you offer corporate days out?

That we do! In fact, we give “team bonding” a fresh new meaning. It’s a fantastic, fun, and effective way to create a memorable team experience, and we’d be thrilled to help you with that. Simply contact us at hello@forkaroundedinburgh.com to book your corporate tour.

Can I book a tour if I have mobility issues?

While we try our best to accommodate everyone, due to the nature of the city (cobblestones, steep inclines, and inaccessibility of some locations), the tour is unfortunately not wheelchair (or baby stroller) accessible, and is not suitable for people with severe mobility issues.

What language will my tour guide speak?

Our tour guide speaks a beautiful Scottish flavoured English. However, if you book a private tour and would like it in another language, we’re happy to bring along a translator for an extra fee. Get in touch with us about that via hello@forkaroundedinburgh.com

Can I take photos during the tour?

Edinburgh’s far too nice-looking to not be photographed! Of course you can take photos, in fact, we’ll have small breaks dedicated for photo opportunities. Make sure to tag #forkaround and #edinburghfoodtours on your photos! We’d love to see these awesome pics.

Food Questions

I’m vegetarian/pescatarian/vegan or/and have food restrictions/intolerances, can I still go on the tour?

All food spots we’ll be visiting on the tour cater to most common diet requirements like vegetarian, but please make sure to inform us beforehand through hello@forkaroundedinburgh.com of any special dietary needs, intolerances or allergies so that we can make sure you’re happy and full throughout your time with us.

I don’t wish to drink alcohol, will there be non-alcoholic options?

Certainly. Not everyone likes a dram and we totally get that, so there’ll always be a non-alcoholic option of a soft drink for you instead.

How much food is provided / what should I eat before?

You won’t leave hungry! We offer 5 different tastings with 3 of these including an alcoholic (or otherwise) drink, so it equates to roughly a 3 course meal. Generally we would recommend a light or early breakfast beforehand.

Tour Itinerary

How long will the tour last?

The average tour lasts about 3 to 3.5 hours. The exact duration can vary slightly, depending on the group and service times in venues.

We’ll be moving our feet for about 90 minutes of those 3 hours, but this is broken up into 10/15-minute segments as we walk between venues.

Can I catch up later if I’m late?

Aye, that’s no problem. You’ll have the phone number of the tour guide on the day, so if you’re running late and want to catch up, the guide will be able to let you know the current location of the group.

Misc

I am from in and around Edinburgh or know the city well, why should I go on the tour?

The tour is not just for tourists, we are sure there will be interesting facts & history that even locals won’t be aware of. We encourage locals to experience Edinburgh in a wee bit of a different way. Besides, you will also get to sample great food & drink, perhaps visit restaurants you previously haven’t, and meet new people.

I’m a solo traveller, can I join the tour?

Our tours are a fantastic way to meet new people and discover this stunning city and all the culinary delights it has to offer.  What better way to socialise than over some good food and drink – this is why we frequently have solo travellers joining us on the tour.

Do you support any charities?

We do, actually! We donate £1 for every person that attends one of our tours to a local foodbank.

This fantastic charity provides food to those who need it most and we are delighted to be giving back to the the local community.

Who do I contact if I have any other questions?

We know this is a lengthy FAQ page, but if you still have a question that hasn’t been answered, we’ll be more than happy to answer it via email. Just pop a message to hello@edinburghfoodtours.co.uk and we’ll get back to you swiftly!

Feedback / special requests?

If you have any feedback after your tour or any special requests beforehand, please don’t hesitate to email Scott on hello@forkaroundedinburgh.com, and he will speedily respond to you within 24 hours!
